Can Joint Pain Be Alleviated by Natural Supplements? Arthritis Basic Information
Can joint pain caused by arthritis be eased by taking natural supplements? Arthritis, as most of us know, has no real cure. The best thing we can do is to alleviate the pain and make sure that the condition does not get any worse. Or we can take early precautions to minimize our chances of having this disorder.
What is arthritis?
It is a type of joint disorder caused by the inflammation of joints. There are several forms of arthritis, with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis as the two most common types. The condition is characterized by mild to severe pain, inflamed joints in most cases, and in highly developed conditions, can even lead to disability.
Arthritis can be caused by infection, injury or trauma and by the onset of old age. Although there is no actual cure for this problem, medications can be taken to alleviate the pain and discomfort. However, there are also ways by which we can strengthen our bones and our immune system to minimize the possibility of developing such a disorder.
Are health supplements the answer?
There are various products that are said to be effective in alleviating arthritic pain, including natural supplements. Arthritis pain, according to several studies, can be effectively managed by supplements that are made from green lipped mussels or GLM.
These mussels are native to the waters of New Zealand and have been found to have the ability to repair damaged joint tissues with the help of the glycosaminoglycans contained in the raw shellfish. The shellfish has also been touted as a highly effective cure for inflammation, which can lead to various conditions such as arthritis and asthma.
Preventive powers of GLM
The shellfish, although in itself is not an arthritic cure, can help strengthen the bones and the immune system. Since most of us cannot abide eating it raw, we are more likely to take it as natural supplements. Arthritis is said to be very rare among the Maori people of New Zealand and most of them attribute this to their high consumption of green lipped mussels.
For those who prefer to take it as supplement, choosing the powdered form will be the wisest choice because in this form, the potency of the raw mussel is most likely retained. Consumers should also be aware that cooking and freezing GLM can degrade its nutritional value, so it would be advisable to select products that were prepared without the use of these two methods.
